Gough Whitlam’s dismissal ‘a calculated plot’ to remove elected government via partisan ambush, PM says Albanese says ‘old suffocating conservatism’ of Menzies era reached out of its political grave to remove a government chosen by voters

50 years ago today, was one of the most controversial moments in Australian political history, the dismissal of Prone Minister Gough William by Governor General Sir John Kerr.
Little has changed to prevent it repeating again.

Part of the reason I do think of the BBC as being fundamentally liberal is the amount of agonising it does about whether it is really to blame for the hostility of its enemies.

They'll no doubt be shocked when they enter the building to discover that the different grades of housing don't get the same bathroom fittings and kitchen units too.

How does having separate access ways not create diverse communities? The people can visit the same shops and cafes when they leave the tower.
People are being given housing in expensive areas, but seemingly this is not good enough.
I'm far from a neoliberal capitalist - but this makes no sense.

What is the alternative - that the social housing residents are made to pay the same service charge & cannot - so get evicted?
I've heard the same outcry in London - and it didn't make any more sense there either.

But if you see the comments, getting discount housing in Barangaroo, but with no concierge or inclusive gym & pool access is a disgrace.

Everyone should have a right to housing - but I'm unclear of the argument as to why everyone should have a right to any level of housing.
You can look at how those owning the luxury apartments for some much money, but that is a different argument to what is being pushed here.

Non social housing residents of developments such as this one are paying massive service charges for facilities in the development that those allocated social housing would not be able to afford.

‘Poor doors’: affordable housing tenants have to use back entrance to access Barangaroo apartments Those paying discounted rent at Watermans Residences can’t use pool or gym, either. Critics say segregation ‘a dystopian microcosm of housing inequality’

Can someone explain to me why certain people (such as the state MP for Newtown) see so called "poor doors" as dystopian?
Developers have to provide certain amounts of social housing as part of some developments, rented at far below market value.

Affluent Sydney suburb residents rail against housing reforms Some residents of one of Sydney’s richest suburbs are railing against the NSW government’s proposed housing affordability reforms.

Struggling to believe this isn't an @betootaadvocate.bsky.social story:
Mosman NIMBYs are hiring Allan Johnston, composer of the "I feel like a Tooheys" jingle to create a "protest power ballad" for their cause...

Who picked this location?

Part of the site sits on a bed of rock, meaning graves can not be dug to the required depth.
Another portion floods regularly and can not be used for burials.

Wild how the people issuing such threats are still portrayed by many as having "legitimate concerns", as though they are fundamentally reasonable.

I DEMAND Panorama IMMEDIATELY produces a documentary showing Kamala Harris not instigating a violent riot, not sexually assaulting anyone, or getting fined for denying it, or being found guilty of business fraud, or f*cking a porn star AND accepting the result of an election.
You know. For balance.

I do really think these folks are underestimating how bad the AI backlash can get if the industry needs a bailout

people are still furious about the 2008 bailout and that was almost two decades ago

There have been 4 million articles written about the alienation of young men by "the left," but I've never seen one article about the alienation of women from the right. It apparently doesn't matter to the press that women are regularly voting for Dems by huge margins because the GOP is so hostile.

Detergent pods and tablets for dishwashers only solve two actual problems:

1. Improving performance for those who always overdose and end up with residues
2. Helping those with mobility issues

Otherwise, the main thing they do is make sure "40 pods" will last you exactly 40 cycles and that's it.

The other option though is trying to describe the type of thing to be named rather than listing it.
This was what the UK did with the psychoactive substances act (to stop "legal highs" and the IIRC, early drafted accidentally banned coffee.
Which all then leads to long lists of exemptions instead.

I get that Roblox can be a problem - but it seems that the messaging isn't the main aspect of the platform, so you'd think they'd be able to control that and still be allowed. Otherwise there will be a kids rebellion.
