Got a new phone for almost 700$ it came with lots of preinstalled advertisement and tried to sell me 4 subscriptions.

#6 "Fake cards" Modern Horizons, Commander sets and now Spiderman and co. They don't feel like real cards, they don't look like real cards and they don't play like real cards. They are in competitive and you can't avoid them. Cards skipping standard also let them ruin modern by design.

#5 Too much text on cards: "The Ring tempts you" "enter the dungeon" many double sided cards with long text on both sides, Arena only things like "Draft the spell book" and much more. This in combination with timed drafts made coming back from time to time for a draft a lot worse.

#4 The death of social interaction. Magic Arena was a big part here but also the chat in Magic Online being hidden by default and COVID making paper play unpractical made the game feel very lonely.

#3 War of The Spark, Oko, Uro and Omnath and the "FIRE" change in design: The game was great, drafting Clear the Mind control in Ravnica Allegiance was fun, Standard had interesting games and then War of The Spark happened. Vintage was ruined forever, Standard was hell and drafting was boring.

#2 "Return to Sets" Starting with original Mirrodin every new block was a new world to explore and every set felt fresh. Going full circle Return to Mirrodin ended this and at first this was fine but the constant spam of "return to sets" felt very uninspiring.

#1 The Birthing Pod Modern Ban. It was at the time maybe the 4th best deck in the format with Splinter Twin, Dig/Cruise delve decks and Amulet Titan all being better. It was also by far the most fun modern deck ever to play. The banning was pointless and made the format less fun.

Now that everyone is doom posting about Magic it's a good time to say why I stopped playing regularly about 3 years ago after playing all my life, as always there are multiple reasons. #mtg #magic

People always go like omg yeah the gacha stuff is bad but there's actually a good story and beautiful characters in this and all I can say is yeah, there is a lifetime's worth of games with good stories and characters to play out there that do not have shitty predatory garbage design in them

Today I played 14 hours of guild wars 1

I have been playing a lot of Guild Wars 1. Currently doing a challenge run of replaying the original campaign and most/all side quests in a deathless run. The game still looks amazing and holds up even 20 years later.

Always remember! Even if it's bad right now it's going to get worse.
