Digital art of original characters Aran and Tao as kids dresses up for Halloween. It’s a New York neighborhood with small old houses, a bit worn down and askew, it’s early evening and the sun is setting painting the sky in orange. Aran is dressed as Batman, in a diy costume, and Tao as a ninja turtle (diy costume). Tao is about to ring the doorbell of an old house, while Aran stopped at the side way and is letting a black cat. The house they stopped on is old and a bit worn down, with two carved out pumpkins glowing in the front yard and on the steps. From the house window a ghost woman, glowing in green, is looking at Tao as he rings the bell. And a ghost cat glowing in green, is sitting on the ac in front of the window and looks down at Aran petting the living cat. The street is otherwise empty and it’s a bit of a nostalgic and melancholic scene but also warm.

At the edge of a decaying concrete tunnel, a woman with shoulder length blonde hair holds out her hand to release a bluebird. It spreads its wings wide taking flight into warm placid skies. The view out of her aerie is from behind. She squats with knees out, comfortably balanced, but noticeably her body is bare. Her clothes lie in a pile beneath her as the sun cuts across the opening of her makeshift sanctuary.

I don’t know where this came from. It started out being part of my Faded Star series, but after painting the sky and distressed architectural details, I felt more inclined to “inhabit” the foreground space... 1/3

A tall humanoid figure with a crow's head stands on a rocky outcrop. Its black feathers become black flowing robes. It has large iridescent wings stretched out to trigger side. In its left hand is a shining sword held almost over its head. From its right hand it holds a set of balancing metal scales, with two baskets. In the left and lower is a single feather. In the right and higher is a heart. Around the crow figure are three human-like figures dressed in long bright red robes. They have pale faces with glowing eyes and sharp teeth, and two long horns on each head. Each has a pair of brightly coloured wings of red, orange, and green. The figure on the left is attempting to upset the balance of the scales. The middle figure claws at the basket with the heart inside. The rightmost figure loosely holds gold coins in a hand raised towards the crow figure. Behind this scene is a landscape of many fields, paths, and woods stretching out into the distance. In the sky are distant storm clouds lit by an evening sun. Above these clouds and the wings of the crow are many bright stars.

The Crow's Judgement

An abstracted painting with a slightly surrealistic bent suggesting landscape and geometric figures. The portion of the poem (DEAD STARS) I’ve selected continues: “ What if we stood up with our synapses and flesh and said, No. No, to the rising tides. Stood for the many mute mouths of the sea, of the land? What would happen if we used our bodies to bargain for the safety of others, for earth, if we declared a clean night, if we stopped being terrified...” I've been thinking about muscles. How they need to be stressed and then rested to grow, to strengthen and to become resiliant. The balance of stress and rest matters - both equally important. And for me, the struggle is always to embrace the rest. I am happiest in motion. And it is the same with our tender hearts, our feisty spirits, our burning creativity. We must push and stress and exercise them, and then rest. So while my muscles were pushed to the limit this month with 15 days of consecutive hiking, bouldering, cliff-climbing and sand walking, my insides were resting. I was unaware of how needed it was. So I was delighted and surprised upon our return to find clarity, energy, enthusiasm and boldness simmering up within me. A desire to shake things up, explore, dive deeply, climb higher than I thought I should. Where will this take me? I cannot wait to find out. In the meantime, the studio is getting a coat of bold, dark paint. OOOOOH!
