Most conservation funds go to large vertebrates at expense of ‘neglected’ species
Study shows funding bias towards animals like rhino while other endangered species including amphibians and algae disregarded
“Nearly 94% of species identified as threatened, and thus at direct risk of extinction, received no support,” said Benoit Guénard in his @theguardian.com interview about a new paper he co-authored with people including @achughes.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Great to see this paper out by friends from HK, now is time to reassess how #conservation #funding could work better for critically endangered species and more importantly ecosystems rather than by "stand-alone" species.

For folks in #Wellington, #NewZealand.
Did you know there is #Penguin Avoidance Training for dogs? Yeah, just like training your dog not to be interested in Kiwis.
If you have a dog, and go to the beach then consider signing your dog up for one of the training sessions.

1st for 2025.
I’m part of a local group in Newlands trapping for introduced pests like rats, mice, hedgehogs and possums. Hopefully there aren’t many more out there!

It is days like today that you see the ripples of change you have been part of finally showing themselves.
Yippee.
It is super exciting to see Kereru now hanging out on bushes in Newlands. Including in our neighbours trees.

Loved how the water droplets formed on this Muehlenbeckia Astonii. Spot the NZ Common Bag Moth as well.

So much for being a wet and cold night out in Wellington. Salvadore and I had a great time exploring the suburbs.
