I think they resigned to avoid further scrutiny of the culture of news manipulation prevalent in the bbc. We all know what happens in bbc scotland, this is condoned by bbc heads in London, who obviously believed that they could get away with it with international news with no consequences.

Used to be jealous of Grampian TV when I was a boy as they had better series than stv, it was certainly different and reflected the NE culture. Moved to Aberdeen in early 80's and have watched that completely dismantled. Now it's a homogenous scotish output with little or no regional output. Shame.

I agree with you but ask any economist and they string off a load of stuff that is relevant to G7 economies not the small country thatscotland will be. The snp jus don't have the people savvy enough to best the tropes. Most Yoon arguments also fall into this uk centric mode.

He's an English socialist in the media. Do you dislike him because he's English or because he's a socialist or because of his Irish name?
I dislike his unionist views but he is necessary in this media system.

There's remains of an old pictish sea-fort there also, not the more common broch on that coast. Very good sign with info too. Just minutes from the bow fiddle rock. Well worth visiting .

I like brown brogues as a shoe. Can't wear them now and haven't from sir Walters times.

Prices are also tanking in the east nuek of Fife as council tax on 2nd homes is now set at up to 100% more than 1st homes. I would love a 2nd home and am lucky enough to be able to afford one, but I can't gazzump a local family just trying to live near ther family.

Aye, I agree they are justified in their distrust of the west, quite rightly so. Your take on nato disbanding is too radical for politicians to countenance though, a no brainer for us plebs though when you think about it. Of course it would be ridiculed for its naivety by the usual suspects. Gnite

That's an interesting take para, but all of the western leaders were too busy patting themselves on the back congratulating each other on their victory. I'm not sure that Russian paranoia would have been assuaged, populist's need grievance and one would have been manufactured as required.

It's looking that way, isn't it. Problem is that the Eastern and western seaboard are not isolationist. Major problems ahead of their own making. I can see amazon destabilisation exercise in Europe from both USA and Russia now. Right wingers pockets filled with gold.....

After ww2 Europe was skint, US stepped into the leadership role and liked it. It suited Europe to go along with this and so it has continued. Now because of Russian and US threats Europe will have to re-arm. Alliances will tighten.....brexit????
We will adapt, but will the USA?

15.02.2025 15:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Post ww2, America has taken the leadership of the west. America wanted this and has worked hard to keep this status quo. Europe now has to re-arm and tighten alliances and trade agreements. This is happening now as we are aware of the danger from Russia and now from the USA. Accept it

Had one for our veggie guests at our burns supper, they raved about it. Went down really well with a whisky, pepper and mushroom cream sauce.

I am getting smothered with posts of American football, basketball and baseball. I really can't be bothered with these sports, I like scottish football, rugby and golf. I get nothing on these.

I am the worst angler in the world, very rarely caught any fish regularly fell in the river, Loch, pond, burn....
Lived for ABU's tight lines magazine, always dreamed that I would go on one of their expeditions and catch big exotic fish. In my 60's now and still can't fish for toffee hahaha

Just a point about pricing yourself out of the market, ยฃ195 per night for a couple in Culross in the middle of winter. Too dear for me. Its just not worth it to pay these prices for a night away in scotland, much as I would like to support small local businesses.

I love the nonsense about the zulus not being indigenous to South Africa as if this makes apartied acceptable. The zulus are only one of the many indigenous African people in that area, but hey we watched a film with Michael Cain and Stanley Baxter.

It's not just the birds they have destroyed natural ecosystems to support their artificially raised species and slaughtered the native species that compete or predate. Here in scotland they destroyed the forests that support the salmon, and salmon declined. Now millions spent trying to rewild.

Aye they never put me off, our country is beautiful and doesn't belong to folk working in youth hostels and visitor centres who were appallingly unwelcoming and unhelpful. Most others were great even the wonderfully named Mr&Mrs L.Music at Tyndrum camp site who had a lot of rules. Glad you help out.

I did it in the 80's after watching Jimmy McGregor's televised version. It was fantastic and got me loving the outdoors. Also gave me a good insight into the snobbery and general unwelcoming attitude of the local populations, they were a "nightmare of nimby's" .

I was a lifelong supporter of the bbc until in my 60's I realised that their scottish news was political bias for the union and every positive scottish achievement was either denigrated or ignored. Its been a nice blueprint for the takeover in england. Get used to it its not going away.

27.01.2025 12:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Hahaha, this is what we in scotland put up with every day. Biased reporting on an organised, institutional basis. They tell us scotland is shite. Now any Liberal views that challenge the right wing oligarch agenda are shite. Get used to it, complaints are useless, don't watch/listen to their news.

23.01.2025 14:30 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is so true. It is the job of independence politicians to create the circumstances for the scottish people to rise. They should be agitating, worrying, annoying and disobeying Westminster at every opportunity. First create the scenarios, then act upon them. If not it is operation branchform

20.01.2025 09:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The nonsense about the over run on budget and schedule is political nonsense. Shipyards can only build the last ship, they can't cost new design and can't estimate accurate completion dates. Everyone involved in shipbuilding knows this, but media are not interested in facts.

16.01.2025 17:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 7    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I was involved with the build of ten ships in my last job. We were one of the few companies that could deliver on time and budget, but we paid project managers very high day rates and eye watering bonuses. The ferry specs were political docs, not tech specs. Not bad though for actually delivering.

Interesting to see the "releaser bad"spin, irresponsible yes, but I certainly don't trust the landowners agricultural or sporting to look after our countryside for the general population. The Highlands may well be ready for lynx release in the next 10 to 20 years but vested interests will fight it
