Styracosaurus albertensis, her face bristling with horns and covered with blunt, round scales, takes a stroll through a sepia-toned environment. The ground is a thick mess of twigs, ferns and broken branches and, in a dead tree to the right, two birds are making a nest. Styracosaurus pauses to ask the birds why their world is so colourless.

"Well", says one bird as she alights on the side of the nest, "have you ever thought how much we _really_ know about the colour of the geological past? We talk regularly about the validity of speculative approaches in palaeoart, but we tend to focus almost entirely on aspects of anatomy and behaviour. Colour, which is virtually always guesswork, gets a free pass. Every now and then, it's good to remind ourselves about what we really know about extinct creatures. That's why you don't even have a discernible colour pattern: everything in this painting is purely a representation of form and morphology."

"Huh", said the Styracosaurus. "But what about the leaves and the sky? Surely we know that leaves were green, and that the sky was blue?"

"Yes", said the bird, "but leaf colour is variable even when green, and plenty of trees have different leaf pigments entirely. And that's to say nothing about the colours of bark and stems. The colour of the sky, meanwhile, is affected by atmospheric composition and has changed over time. These things were probably shades of green and blue in the Late Cretaceous, but it's difficult to say exactly what they were."

The Styracosaurus paused, taking it all in. "That's interesting", she said, "I'm confused about one thing, though. How comes you're talking about the geological past when we're here now? Don't _we_ know what colours we are?"

The birds flew away.

New #paleoart for #FossilFriday: someone spilt a load of Neave Parker all over this painting of Styracosaurus. Whoops.

(I should really draw some ceratopsids found this century, but the Styracosaurus silhouette remains awesome, 112 years post-discovery. Note the non-speculated frill asymmetry.)

Elias, a blue skinned Tiefling with vitiligo, clad in green, golden and red robes. They are holding a red heart shaped balloon in their right hand and a pink cake in their left hand. They are smiling gently. They are wearing a funky party hat! The picture says Happy Birthday!

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

The fun part about this is that it does literally nothing to protect teens or kids. None of these steps EVER consider providing people with resourceful tips of danger signs 'disengage' or 'report' etc. Fucking morons. Creeps have been on kid's sites since Neopets in the 90s FUCK OFF WITH THIS SHIT.

Instead of security bankrupt Age Verification ID laws I need people to start campaigning for apps to implement required security training of red flags for scams, grooming, phishing, etc. lmao Make people have to take modules like we do for work, at least they'll be forced to know what not to do then

were it not for the active exploitation of contract workers i would find this neopets ttrpg debacle really enjoyable. what a treat to have an adaptive work that completely crashes the original thing through a plate glass window

Three panel comic depicting a white man with red hair reading a book on a bed. The first panel shows the cover of the book, entitled "Neopets TTRPG." The second panel shows the man's finger following a sentence on an open page: "This work has not been paid for by John Taylor of Geekify." The third panel shows the man's face, looking confused.

Vera is resting among a weeping willow's three branches, the leaves swaying in the wind and reflecting the moonlight. Dark swan wings unfurl from within Vera's ribcage and around her heart. A black swan is leaning down its neck towards the heart.

In the background there is a peaceful lake scene with white swans, and more weeping willows in the distance.
