I remember feeling a sincere relief, like “well that’s my career sorted.” I never knew what to answer to “what do you want to be when you grow up?” And then I did!

The only time I seriously considered a different career path was as an adult, in the process of burning out on freelancing.

When I was 8, I watched a “how to draw Spirit [the horse]” special feature, where James Baxter sits at a desk, in an office, drawing for work. This was huge news. I imagined packing my dad’s briefcase with colored pencils and printer paper on my way to The Drawing Office. I had to make it there!

Would you be alright with me printing this and putting in my window? I'd love to send a tip or something for the use - no pressure ofc!

I think the “blowing” claim isn’t about it sticking straight out, but rather the like, swinging the fabric does after they twist it a bit. the low gravity + no air resistance makes it look more energetic than normal. And to morons the only explanation can be wind

Also my spicier take is this is exactly the same thing with RGB -> CMYK. get your values right and the piece becomes *incredibly* resilient to the adjustments required for print format

if your values hit this won't matter! beyond that, color is relative anyway, so it's not about the hex code but instead the relationship between colors in your piece. if your hue turns are so minor and precise as to be ruined on a different monitor, then I guarantee they're not working anyhow

Years ago I was alerted that AUD inflation was in the news over there because I had 3 commissioners in 2 weeks ask me to lower my USD prices to make up for it. They all seemed to think this had SUDDENLY happened to AUD specifically, instead of yknow... global market trends + constant fluctuation

For freelance illustration (so no idea if there’s crossover 😅) I’ve always heard it’s totally normal to reach out to ADs with a significant portfolio update, provided the new work is relevant to their needs!

I'm always perplexed by the baggage the term seems to attract - in my experience it's basically always *just* used to contrast vs. someone who went to art school or got a degree. personally have never encountered anyone trying to "humblebrag" just by using that term on its own
