Hello, no you haven't made that up. On a Bar-tailed Godwit there is only enough space to write BAR between the birds belly and 'knee'. On a Black-tailed Godwit there's enough space to write Black on account of Black-tailed Godwits being more 'leggy'. Not much use if the birds are in the water!

A European Golden Plover stands alert in a wetland, its golden-speckled plumage contrasting against dark feathers. A white band runs along its head and face, set against a dark mask. Its slender legs are planted amidst short grasses, with a blurred backdrop of soft browns and green. The intricate pattern of its feathers glistens in the light, showcasing the bird's striking beauty.

Amid Iceland’s wild beauty, its wetlands are lifelines for migratory birds. ✨

We're teaming up with BirdLife Iceland & the Ecological Restoration Fund to bring these vital habitats back to life for species like the Golden Plover.
