Lassen Volcanic National Park, just to Shasta’s southeast. Spent a lot of time in Hat Creek Valley as well, part of Lassen National Forest.

Finally back from a much needed vacation in the southern Cascades, despite delays and setbacks due to weather. Mostly for exercise and exploration, but still captured about 12 hours of nature recordings.

Exactly. Especially airplanes. Almost nowhere on our planet can you go 15 minutes or more without hearing anthropophony. Such spots exist but are getting rarer by the year. (Recommended read: “One Square Inch of Silence,” Gordon Hempton)

The persistence and perseverance of life on this planet is nothing short of astonishing.

Excited – and sad – to say that I've reached a new personal best: 24 contiguous minutes of wilderness recording without a single airplane or vehicle sound.
