Why in the hell do we give tax breaks to corporations making obscene profits?

The entire system seems like a welfare program for the rich!

Corporations are sucking the money out of this country and giving it to their shareholders. The short-term gain for them destroys long-term value. If you don't have a government that takes care of its citizens, then you'll have fewer citizens in the future. Fewer consumers = Long-term loss.
