Portland, literally two days ago. This old man is insane and should be put into a home where his meds can be administered by professionals.

The only silver lining about all this shit is daydreaming about how satisfying it’s going to be to tear it all up by the roots, demolish take it down to studs and rubble, and salt the earth in its wake. Trying to stay alive for that eventual payoff.

I feel so wildly out of step with fandom most of the time. I do not react to things the same way as apparently everyone else does, and it’s bemusing to me how we can all love one thing so strongly and engage with everything else in such vastly different ways. Humans are interesting.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest. There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day. What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid. It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

I love it when it steams out of them in times of stress 😈 because most of the time they’re just running from the knowledge and ignoring it to the best of their ability.

I will miss seeing my friends there, and I adore Jared, but the value isn’t in it for me anymore. I’m well and truly shot of them now, I think. Thank you, Josh Ritter, for refilling my cup and bringing some clarity to something that’s been bothering me.

Real talk on this Thursday night, it’s incredible to me how markedly different I feel after these past two days than when I did leaving Vancouver after SPNVan, and I think I’ve finally accepted that CE conventions do not spark joy for me at all, and I need to redirect that money, time, and effort.

Mad at myself that I didn’t buy a ticket for Josh’s Seattle show. Dummy.

😡 I hope this gets sorted for you, soon. We dealt with similar the last few winters and it’s astounding how much working in the cold absolutely saps all your energy.
