The worst bit is, from my experience, as freeholder when flats were bought under right to buy, the local authority would have done nothing to improve the estate, plus planned Regen, so the estate would have been run down to point where council buy back was cheap. I’ve seen this in Ealing.

The bill is so high also because private renting is the only route to a rented home, and if you can't afford it HB/UC pays. In London the max UC helps is way below what is available leaving families and disabled in terrible temp accommodation. The rest has to fit elsewhere.

What do they think people do in the UK? Arrive and claim benefits? You can barely survive on that. ILR after 5 years is only possible for very few. The rest work. If on a low income, they already need to wait 10 years, not 5. Those on 5 yrs route are the high earners.

We need an English parliament.
