The restaurant I’m having lunch in is playing a moody jazz saxophone cover of the Harry Potter theme and the extent that a simple change of instrumentation transforms it from “magical fantasy world” to “seedy film noir” is jarring.

There really ought to be a washing machine emoji, and Unicode should support combining them with emoji faces. May I present for your consideration:

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

While I love the energy of 8 AM Jackhammers, the melodic complexity of Times Square Horn Quartet makes it a much more approachable album for a first listen. Union Square Subway Screech is a good follow-up. Under the BQE is a more cerebral, ambient album that takes a few listens to really resonate.

Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.

Wow it turns out the entire country is not permanently reactionary because Trump won an election by 1.5%

the most telling sign that someone "loves art" for pseudo-intellectual reasons is when they ONLY like high-brow art

I'm a fuckin art nerd; if its good art, I'm happy. So when a person can't find as much value in a great drag show as they can in ballet, its like ohhh ok you're just an asshole

Apparently someone keeps affixing “R. Mutt” stickers to the actual urinals in MoMA’s bathrooms…

Actually, the one story I’ve heard that might have a morsel of truth to it involved the very same Fountain 🤔

I’ve heard so many stories of people pissing in Fountain that I’d have a hard time believing someone if they told me they *haven’t* pissed in it.

Every time they flee to some low-tax backwater, they discover there’s no culture there and come crawling back to NYC. Yet articles about the millionaires who missed New York and came back don’t serve the right purpose for the media.

The more I look at the Lincoln Bathroom remodel, the more I’m convinced he had an aide just go to town with a roll of faux marble contact paper.

If you’re getting married on Halloween, costumes should be mandatory. If the couple isn’t in full Xenomorph and Ripley getup (for example) they should at least be required to pick something out of a sad costume box before the officiant will start.

Listen, that’s an important piece of Los Angeles cultural heritage. How else will future historians know about LA’s most sacred totem, the automobile?

I recently moved from NYC to LA. I wish I could still vote for Zohran for mayor but I’ll settle for voting yes on 50.

California – this Election Day, vote yes on Prop 50.

California’s Prop 50 says that if Republicans are going to abuse the system to try and hang onto power, we’re going to counteract that abuse and create a level playing field in the midterm elections.

Make a plan to vote yes on Prop 50.

I got to vote for Zohran Mamdani tonight! What a joy, what a privilege! And I’m going to spend the rest of the days until the 4th continuing to canvass and phone bank. You can, too!
