Sometimes I think about those very first scientists & pols who became aware of climate change. They thought, "what's step one? I know, we'll get literally every nation in the world together & sign a binding treaty that will force us all to completely retool our industrial bases!"

Imagine.

To be blunt, I don’t want to spend my remaining years, and more importantly, my children and grandchildren, waking up to this, and worse, for the rest of their lives.

Watching all the gerrymandering in the US right now, as a Canadian I am so grateful we have the non-partisan Elections Canada in charge of ridings instead of politicians trying to game the system. Elections Canada is not perfect, but in terms of democracy it leaves the US system in the dust!

Forecast 2-m temperatures today in Finland, based on the MEPS regional model.

20 straight days with 30 °C in Finland! Truly unprecedented heatwave still in full swing with maximum today about 32-33 degrees.

Even the Arctic regions (e.g. Sodankylä Tähtelä) have seen three weeks above 25 °C, and may rival tomorrow their August heat records.

The forests are tinder dry due to climate change. Rising temps bring drought. The cause is excess CO2 and other greenhouse gases. Most emitted due to burning oil gas and coal. We must stop buring and use renewable energy. President Trump is fuelling the flames. Can he be stopped?

Why can't the Premier just focus on the basic business of provincial government like reducing wait times at hospitals and ensuring schools aren't falling apart. Why is everything with him another damn scheme?

Republicans complain to Canada over wildfire smoke despite supporting planet-heating bill Lawmakers send letter railing against ‘suffocating’ smoke days after voting for Trump plan likely to boost pollution

When American politicians complain about Canadian wildfire smoke, it’s like, which country has been changing the climate to create wildfire conditions?

Canada isn’t innocent of greenhouse gas emissions, but compared to the States, come on.

World in $1.5tn ‘plastics crisis’ hitting health from infancy to old age, report warns Plastic production has increased more than 200 times since 1950 and hits health at every stage from extraction to disposal, says review in the Lancet Plastics are a “grave, growing and under-recognised danger” to human and planetary health, a new expert review has warned. The world is in a “plastics crisis”, it concluded, which is causing disease and death from infancy to old age and is responsible for at least $1.5tn (£1.1tn) a year in health-related damages. The driver of the crisis is a huge acceleration of plastic production, which has increased by more than 200 times since 1950 and is set to almost triple again to more than a billion tonnes a year by 2060. While plastic has many important uses, the most rapid increase has been in the production of single-use plastics, such as drinks bottles and fast-food containers. Continue reading...

So is this summer from now on, Canada? While our new PM builds more pipelines? If people aren’t willing to wear a respirator for Covid, they sure won’t wear one for wildfire smoke in summer. So much chronic illness headed our way. 😞

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

The infuriating thing beyond all the obvious that's already been said is that Ford has a *ton* of political capital that we could desperately use in nation building projects. Affordable housing on government land? That's going to upset people and we could use the goodwill he inexplicably maintains.
