These genetic changes raise serious concerns about increased transmission, making it easier for the virus to spread among mammals, including humans. This marks the first detection of this virus genotype in dairy cattle.
Previously, all detections in dairy cattle have been linked to HPAI H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b, genotype B3.13.
