Thank you @themathsbazaar.bsky.social for letting me know about the GCD on the calculator. Several yr 11s were entirely overjoyed with learning it today.

There was a lovely error in a set of normal approximation questions where it had consistently not done the continuity correction and my class sleuthed it out.

Oh I thought that was only on the next one coming!
This yr 11 student will be insanely psyched.

I've found it's fine if you ask for solutions for questions because you can check and refine if it makes a mistake. If you don't ask for solutions it makes some gibberish.

In #MathsToday a yr 11 learned about the prime factor function of her calculator and suddenly became obsessed with doing questions. I've never seen her do so much work, even when we looked at other topics today.

It had an insane impact - today doing stats prep and the students that did the flashcards knew all the exam answers while the others were baffled.

#mathstoday returning to Pointon and Sangwin's taxonomy to try and create a small summary activity for factorising quadratics back into two brackets. Bit rusty, not sure I've quite got it right, would love some feedback from any #mathsteachers #ukmathsteachers

FREE STUFF! If you are involved in primary to secondary transition, there are two great sets of resources that could be coming your way

First of all, at b.link/year6calculators, you can download booklets that help year 6 (or even year 7) students become familiar with the new CW model

In #MathsToday we made a conjecture from this prompt...then tried to prove it.

In #MathsToday I showed my yr 13 @dalechapman.bsky.social LDS flashcards and they were having a disproportionate amount of fun quizzing each other with them.

I covered their bio lesson p5 and had to reign them back in from doing it again.

In #MathsToday we bulk marked some of our mock papers as a team.

Realised it was much less emotionally impactful when you don't know if the paper is one of yours or not. So much less "why didn't they get this right?!"

Improving the tool based on feedback from the group I last tried it with, my new dot to dot coordinate checks went down a treat with Y7 this week.

Best moment of the week: celebrating improvement with my yr 9s, some of whom had 10x the marks in the recent test than the previous.

Our key skills section in the tests is paying off, they are making big improvement in the basics that we can build on in yr 10.

"Every adult is being used for every minute of the day" is an excellent thing to consider for anyone who wants change in schools. The pace and intensity of work in schools is remarkable. It shocks people when they first experience it.

I've been very explicit with my class of when I've used AI and what it did wrong and how I knew - essentially that I knew the steps so could see the incorrect ones. I don't know the impact outside of class but they ask me even when on devices (looking up a paper) in class.

I’ve repeated the phrase β€œif it’s tricky, draw a piccy” a lot this term. I’m so pleased to see my students using it on their assessments to justify answers/reasoning. I’ve been focusing on graphing technology and multiple representations in my teaching so it’s great to see it having an impact. ☺️
