The summer project this year is just a massive clear out. Nothing fancy, just really going into all the drawers and cupboards that we "just put that there" in and throwing away or organising.

I would 100% go to that talk. I love history of maths so if your talk wasn't even practical and was just stories I'd be so up for it.

Built a proper desk now I have a proper desk top PC.

I'd love to claim it's to prepare for my EdD but it's definitely for computer games.

Friday me: I shall spend Monday doing all the little work admin tasks that will take up time in sept.
Today me: Ooh, Wandering City is on sale, let's play that!

Am.home early because half day at end of term.

My cats clearly think I am dying and are sitting all over me, purring.

Alarm off.

But can't turn the cat off so I will likely still not get lie ins.

Sports day: the day where I sit in a quiet room supervising quiet children who selected to play board games while I do various HoD tasks. 10/10

What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths?

Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks...
... or just ones you really like.

Two more weeks. Which is great because it's close to time to rest.

Which is awful because I have so much to do and so little time.

I know I'm less engaged because Twitter gets through the school block but blue sky doesn't so I can't casually engage in the day with a lot of things.

In Tesco doing the shop that should have been delivered yesterday. Just a snowballing weekend of annoyances.

On the plus side, over halfway through marking allocation and getting faster each pass through.

I'm now two hours past when my Tesco order was due and the support line can't get the store on the phone.

At this point I'm just tired. And have to wait to get a call back so I can't even go to bed.

A day spent exam marking and waiting on various inexplicably delayed deliveries (IKEA, Tesco). Couldn't get any progress on the house creation as IKEA didn't turn up til nearly 7pm. Tesco still waiting, 15 mins after delivery slot.

Fuming.

I went one note for a while but have gone back to ppt because it's easier to reuse next time.

I tend to use visualiser and paper if I need the space now as that has the added benefit that I can record it and send it out later.

While being observed today I had to tell my year 10s "I know you're really into the challenge but you need to pause so we can look at the next topic." Never have they been so into a task. It was also careers linked, so very tick box.

Given it's a level, do you ever do stats work with their results data?

When we had 2 classes we used to create and plot comparison box plots and get them to describe.

Did that work well? It seems like it should. It also seems like it would be quite good PD for teachers.

But then you'd know who those students are and maybe be able to pre empt the issue? I've used a hint sheet before for questions like that so everyone can get started.

I love this! I will give this a go with 6th form next time we have a test.

I'd love to do that but hw ethic is an issue in our cohorts so that would likely just result in a second poor test. Tempted to try though as it might motivate them. But then should we not provide some instruction in class as well? How do you structure that part?
