How Reeves could raise £15 billion without hurting working people youtu.be/f26kOz28Hjg?... Unearned income—like dividends, rents, and capital gains—escapes the tax burden workers face. In this video, I argue it’s time for economic fairness and tax justice.

@threadinburgh.scot you probably already know this but I was mind blown today to discover that the Walnut Whip is an Edinburgh invention 🤯

Apparently Duncan’s first created it in 1910 at their works in Beaverhall.

There must be other Edinburgh confections.

Piece of rock anyone?

Fossil Fool How Europe took Trump for a ride

If you examine the substanceof the EU-Trump deal, it starts to look as if Europe played Trump for a fool. Specifically, a fossil fool.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s foul

Ultimate example of a product built purely on brand not product - form not substance

Thanks. That’s all I and my fellow STGA Blue Badge student class of 30+ were ever able to find out about it as well. It is a bit of an enigma!

I mentioned the Portobello open-air pool in a brief thread at the weekend, so inevitably I invested *way* too much time this week on exhaustively researching the history of this amazing attraction so that you too can join me on a thread about it. I mean who doesn't love an "Art Deco" lido?

Any idea who/when/why (and maybe where) it was erected?

Well done for calling out the Record’s appalling journalism. It might make a good headline but it is just a personal tragedy, no news

Could you help with this survey about public engagement around Roman sites in Scotland? Looking forward to welcoming researcher to Kinneil on the Antonine Wall later in month, & further discussion on the topic:

Also remove the tax break for higher rate taxpayers on additional pension contributions. There’s £14bn by itself

The state did not ban PA because they are terrorists.

They banned them because they are scared.

To those supporting genocide at Downing Street:

Repression won't save you. Your police & your prisons won't save you.

We have class solidarity & we are coming for you.👊🏽

Today, the UK Gov voted to make Palestine Action a terrorist group.

385 MPs voted against free speech & protest, while only 26 MPs in favour.

ONLY 26 MPs defended key tenants of democracy, while the rest voted for suppression & authoritarianism.

Yeah. Fuck that.

WE ARE ALL PALESTINE ACTION! ✊🏽🇵🇸

Today 22 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli military while seeking aid. Yesterday, at least 69 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli military—29 while waiting for aid trucks in another death trap as they struggled to feed their families.

The Iraq playbook is back & the media won’t question it.

Iran has no nuclear weapons. Israel — on trial for genocide — does. Iran signed the NPT & allows IAEA inspections. Israel hasn’t — & its leaders face ICC arrest warrants.

Beware of politicians beating the drums of war.

Evil is only so popular because it is so profitable.

Why is shoplifting, fly tipping and Murder illegal.

But asset stripping, sewage dumping and Genocide is totally fine, in fact, here have loads of money for it.

They really should remove the World Cup from the USA and let Canada and Mexico do it all.

That’s my point. These features (apart from downloads that any technology should be able to deliver) are features of the underlying tech of the existing site. If they are ditching that tech they have to develop the capabilities from scratch themselves

Also the commercial database is probably quite expensive to own. But you do get what you pay for….

Replicating that functionality in a non-relational or specialist spatial DB is very, very hard and will take a very long time so don’t hold your breath

I suspect that both the “new audiences” and cost saving reasons are true. Canmore is hosted in a commercial database that has built in support for spatial (SQL) queries. But the bright young things that design websites nowadays think SQL is a thing of the past and couldn’t write a spatial query

I’m astonished at how far the ground level has risen - you can only see about half the western processional door! Was this intentional to buttress the building or a result of the debris of the demolition of the surrounding buildings?
