White men file workplace discrimination claims but are less likely to face inequity than other groups Research shows that white men who file discrimination charges experience employer retaliation at similar rates as other racial groups.

The EEOC is encouraging white men to file race and sex discrimination complaints. We know a little about this already so I wrote this with Steve Boutcher.

Note that this in itself is a well-replicated finding. At least a dozen studies show that when researchers replicate qualitative research, or re-analyze it, they come to basically identical themes. There is nothing special about qualitative research with respect to replicability.

Brilliant article just out in PLOSOne: The overlap of gender and ethnicity/SES in school classes has large effects on friendship segregation.
The authors develop an easy fix:
Class placement minimizing gender consolidation decreases segregation by 4–7 percentage points.

Local Communities, Distant Origins: How Cultural Distance and Local Context Shape Immigrant Ethnoreligious Infrastructures | American Journal of Sociology: Vol 0, No ja

Businesses, associations, and places of worship are key aspects of immigrant community life. Why do some groups build dense organizational ecologies but others don’t? A new analysis of 25,117 ethnoreligious organizations in 4900 communities suggests that culture—not social structure—drives density

Another update on American Sociological Review’s failure to meet current social science standards In the most recent volume, two-thirds of papers based on quantitative analysis provided replication packages.

Two-thirds of quantitative articles in the latest volume of American Sociological Review provide at least their code and a link to the data, which is progress over past years but still very bad.

This talk by @simine.com about what other fields can learn from the crisis in psychology is excellent. I so wish sociology was listening. If 10% of sociologists knew 50% of what she says then research in sociology would be 100% better.

This new trick in Economics of pretending almost everything everyone defines as the welfare state is not the welfare state…and then declaring PRE-distribution not redistribution drives inequality is not intellectually serious.
