This was our first summer with a sizable porch! We made pickles from the cukes and peppers from our first garden, had some really pretty blossoms, and learned a lot for next year! 🌱

A vine of cherry tomatoes still attached to the plant. The first three at the top are almost fully ripe, the ones in the middle are showing very early signs of blushing, and the ones at the end are still green. There is foliage from the tomato plant all around.

Today is the midpoint between the summer solstice & the autumnal equinox. It's true High Summer and marks the beginning of Harvest. There's also a full moon today (2:36 EDT).

Welcome to the season of abundance. Enjoy, and spread it around! When you have plenty, find someone who doesn't have enough.

Ten large canning jars on a kitchen table, eight of which contain pickles carrots and two have pickled jalapeno slices. Four more jars of carrots are not pictured but they do exist.

Learned the hard way that a sudden windfall of carrots is a lot of work to deal with. The community garden 🌱 folks were desperate to offload them so I took about 20 pounds. I made pickled carrots (and that pickled jalapeno is also from the garden) but good lord it was more work than it was worth.
