Continued to be in the pits of an utter brain rewiring, vomited out over a thousand words about #over/under last night and finally set up a blog just specifically so I could post about it, so I inflict unto you:

Last post about #over/under for the night: adding onto that aspect of completely separate gameplay experiences, barely learned:

I'll misclick and wind up in a thread that's like 99% people that I don't know doing shit that I literally had no idea that was going on- or that the server was even supporting. Good shit, honestly inspiring a certain kinda nostalgia of stumbling on random shit on forums.

Actually, gonna post more about #over/under: there've been parallel play experiences that simply don't *interact at all*. While I was in a fighting tournament (and betting on myself) people were doing shit like setting up fullblown ARGs, submitting art grant proposals, all kinds of wild crap.

Been playing #OVER/UNDER for several days and:

1) Actually chill as hell
2) I really wanna run Mothership again
3) Turns out, when players are left to their own devices in a freeform-ish game, a solid 50% of all activity they'll come up with "how do we come up with a new way to gamble"

What I have seen come up as a possibility, though, is the idea of Lawrence possibly being asexual, with some of those aforementioned letters also more or less going "I don't share your fondness for men- or indeed, that sort of fondness for anybody" (Surprise 3)

When it comes to his descriptions of captivity, I've heard debate does run the gamut from "sexual fantasy" to "guy *really* struggling to cope with repeated sexual abuse" with varying levels of credence lent to the exact historicity of the events described (2/2)

tbh that element's a little more contentious. I've chatted with a colleague or two that're more keyed into that era and Lawrence, a lot of Lawrence's letters with his friends involve open acknowledgement of how *they* were gay, but he himself didn't share their inclinations (1/2)

Personally: I think folks are fine to feel frustrated that one of the biggest names in fantasy is slinging millions upon millions to one of the biggest anti-queer organizations while he keeps insisting he's an ally (and, to my knowledge, has kept quiet about this ever since Trump took office again).

Personally, I find Sanderson *a lot* more contemptible- he wants to have his cake and eat it too, he supports an institution that's all-in on queer genocide while saying he's an ally. While queer folks know to avoid Rowling, him muddying the waters means some folks are funding our own demise!

Hell, even if we pretended that Sanderson genuinely needs to tithe to the Church: he chooses to teach at fucking Brigham Young University, aka the "we got a religious exemption to ban gay students from dating" school. And not does he only teach there, he promotes them by posting his lectures!

Somebody pointed it out to me once, but the whole "a video game's plot doesn't need to be good, it's only the gameplay that counts" is *never* invoked when the plot is like, actually good lmao
