I've been hearing about a lot of behaviors that people think "melt their brain" or "make people stupid."

So what do people think "makes people smarter" and "repairs your brain"?

I couldn't have asked for a better context for the first demo of #CarbonLang C++ interop. The talk was really amazing, with a wonderful message of empathy and welcoming.

I did not expect the first (public) demo of Carbon-C++ interop I saw to be on a Commodore 64 emulator at a cppnorth keynote about empathy. Great work @scott.hanselman.com

This just should not be controversial. In just a few short years suddenly vaccines and programs like USAID that have saved hundreds of millions of people’s lives are now controversial. There is no controversy, there are only assholes that have too much money

I’m still mulling over Sam Altman’s claim that “missionaries will beat mercenaries” as I’m confused about what OpenAI’s mission is today.

From what I can tell it’s “replace workers with AI and get rich along the way”.

What’s the difference between missionaries and mercenaries with that mission?

AI is overhyped, but potentially very useful; needs careful deployment that it too often isn't getting.

And the care in deployment is *both* due to harmful uses / overuses *and* because much of the potential utility is contingent on deployment factors.

Almost 20 years ago, a doctor on TV was asked, "Isn't 12 a little early for a kid to be deciding to transition?" And her response was, "It's old enough for them to decide that it's not worth living anymore if they can't."

That was the only argument I ever needed to hear about gender affirming care.
