The Reach are colonizers, but the Horizon are refugees who split off from the Reach. At first blush it was almost inevitable for them to be treated like a threat, the same way their guardians treated Jaime as a threat. But once everyone could see the truth, they embraced each other. They are welcome

The Horizon are a stroke of genius. Jaime’s had themes of colonialism vs immigration since his first series, most prominently in the This Land is Our Land graphic novel, and the Horizon kind of bring that to a new height.

The visions of the Negotiator reach their final form, and Jaime realizes that this isn't just his own fear he's feeling, it's Khaji's too. And Khaji's speech starts coming back into focus.

Jaime: "Can everyone stop trying to kill me for just one minute?!"

Victoria jams Batman's communications, and Ted high fives her for it. Victoria: "It's easy. Why Batman uses this cheap Waynetech is beyond me... Jaime owes me big after all this." Batman: "I can hear you, Ted." Ted: "Sorry, Bats. It's nothing personal."

Oh, that bait and switch with Fadeaway and Victoria was *clean*

Jaime: "I know all about the Horizon. How they're a sworn enemy of the Reach. Which... cool! I'm not their number one fan either." Xiomara: "You really don't get it, do you? That scarab on your back is an engine of destruction. As long as someone wields it, it's a danger to Earth. All Reach technology must be destroyed to make way for the Horizon." Jaime: "You're not wrong about the 'engine of destruction' stuff, but Khaji Da and I overcame all that! We learned to work together and we prevented the Reach invasion! The first one, at least." Xiomara: "You seem like a good guy, Jaime. You really do. You remind me of my little brother back in El Salvador. But you cannot fight your fate. Someday you will lose control of your scarab, and then what will happen to everyone you care about?"

I'm really digging this angle of a new Reach story.

Brenda: "I'm not trying to come down on you, ya know? We're just looking out for you, Jaime." Jaime: "I know. I know, and I appreciate it. I just don't feel like I'm ready for college yet. Maybe ever? When we're done with this, we can talk about it. There's a lot to catch up on." Paco hugs Jaime and Brenda. Paco: "God I've missed you guys!"

The Reach were conquerors, but not a monolith. Many Reach resisted this war, while others fled into the unknown. The Tamaraneans helped these refugees escape! They were known as... the Horizon! A people without a homeworld. A civilization on the run. A missing piece of the puzzle. A sworn enemy of the Reach!"

Oooh new lore! The Reach could definitely use some history expansion.
