Want to update and say THANK YOU for your help and the signal boosting, I’ve covered the difference and she is heading to G. City on Friday for her surgery. She is beyond relieved and grateful; this injury was completely disabling and she’s been bed bound for months.

Sometimes things seem grim, but also sometimes a bunch of 10th graders you spoke to about the work you do send you a dozen lovely and genuine thank you cards, most of which say how relieved they were to learn that there are real people at Company to help them when they’re in trouble, and, you know.😭

We do it for safety reasons, too. Children often lie about their ages when signing up for accounts, and when I‘m investigating a potential grooming case, being able to see that there’s a signal a user might be a minor is helpful!

This is the REAL ISSUE. It’s not really
about what Discord or any company is doing — it’s about the social attitude now that everyone else in the world but parents must ensure your children are safe and “comfortable” online. That’s the true enemy here

I was part of the very first investigations and prosecutions of that group on Discord, and I’m very familiar with their tactics, for clarification.

I will say that I don’t particularly think this move is going to prevent a lot of grooming or CSAM distribution. The extreme behaviors you’re referring to in your thread sound like you’re talking about 764, and that group will also not be particularly affected by this, unfortunately

Also, that “they’re going to scan your account and make an educated guess about your age” data point — this is something multiple other social media companies have already done for years. It’s probably already being done to your other accounts on other platforms.

The fact is that nobody who is currently telling you how this is going to go down, and what will definitely stop it from happening, is fully informed on the situation, and I would again advise taking these kinds of pronouncements at face value.

Also, I feel pretty confident in saying that outrage and Nitro cancellations will not change this decision.

As of right now, the spreadsheet is aiming to contain links to Dawntrail compatible mods hosted on XMA and/or Heliosphere (only these two) that meet at least one of the following criteria: - Mods that are very directly made with black characters in mind (EX: black hair mods, sculpts with black features, etc.), - Mods that are directly shown to work on darker skin tones through proper previewing (EX: body mods previewed on darker skin tones, makeups previewed on darker skin tones, etc.), - Mods that promote more racial diversity ingame that could possibly help black players feel more seen and properly represented. (EX: NPC overhaul mods, etc.), - Guides and resources to promote further creation of inclusive mods (EX: Devkits, Guides, Resource Bundles, etc.), However! Unlike my transmasculine compendium, I am unable to curate mods for this based off my own personal lived experience. I am white, and I really do not feel right putting out resource on an assumption that I am fulfilling the needs of my black peers. I want to confidently know that I have done everything I can to make sure this resource accurately represents the wants and needs of the wonderful black players in this community. With that in mind, I am looking to reach out to my black friends, followers, mutuals, and broader members of the community for assistance!
