Elliott's Lusztig's response, after I reported what his ally did to me, was to quietly like the libelous post and block me.

I think that I can now safely say exactly what #CalExit is about. A vote for #CalExit is a vote for racism, cowardice and for backbiting narcissism.

At this point, I feel embarrassed by the fact that I was ever supportive of that crowd. Now that I know what they're about, I'll unfollow them and start blocking them on sight.

If I bother to stay active on Bluesky, at all, that is.

I seldom, if ever, run into people like this anywhere outside of the Internet, so maybe a less time consuming (and more rewarding) response to the problem would be to put my accounts on hold, and spend more time outdoors, reading real books.

When getting it right would be this easy, there's no forgiveness for those who get it wrong. No coming back, no way to make your cause look respectable, again.

But do as you wish. The next move is yours.

Let us understand each other, clearly. You've been handed a simple moral choice. The facts of the case can be easily confirmed. This means that if you get this one wrong, that you wanted to get it wrong. That you grossly wronged a former supporter, deliberately.

There's no redemption after that.

Check the demographics. If people of color aren't onboard with your independence movement, it's done.

Getting known as the movement one has to watch one's back around won't do #CalExit any favors, either. That s h i t MIGHT fly on Bluesky, but it won't in most of the real world.

As your buddy was looking more than a little bit racist as he engaged in behavior worthy of a psychopath, that's not going to be a good look for you.

#CalExit has an uphill battle ahead of it. Good luck winning it, if you've alienated everybody in your state other than the WASPs.
