“Kurds are Sunni like HTS” this is over simplifying. It’s true that majority of the Kurds are Muslims, but we don’t adopt political Islam. The deal came under American and Turkish pressure to end the reasons of Kurdish insurgency in Syria, in parallel Turkey is doing the same with the PKK.

#Syria is now engulfed in full-scale war, with remnants of pro #Assad armed groups targeting security forces, while pro-government forces are carrying out massacres against #Alawites. What a shameful and barbaric fate.

The violence began when pro-Assad militants assassinated members of the Syrian security forces, triggering a rapid and deadly escalation.

In the past 48 hours, at least 717 Syrians, mostly from the Alawite minority have been brutally killed by Syrian government forces. What many feared has now become a reality.

The Syrian government’s official media claims that “pro-Assad” groups are sabotaging fiber optic cables, causing regional blackouts. However, these areas were targeted at the same time, in a major security operation by Syrian forces, leading to serious violations against civilians.

Reclaiming telecom security isn’t just a technical issue—it’s about protecting Syrians’ freedoms and privacy after decades of abuse. Surveillance must never again be a tool of oppression.

Long-term, Syria needs:
- Complete control over its telecom systems.
- Laws to criminalize surveillance and protect privacy.
- Independent investigations into past breaches.

Syrians must treat local networks as insecure. Use encryption tools like VPNs and apps such as Signal or WhatsApp for safer communication.

Sanctions Complicate Security: International sanctions prevent Syrian users and network infrastructure from updating software and operating securely. Outdated systems = vulnerable to hacking and easier surveillance, mainly if Iran has a privileged network level access to the Syrian infrastructure.
