If you take the sum (or average) of two dice rolls, order DOES NOT matter. In fact, as you keep adding dice rolls, the result approaches a Gaussian.

This is the central limit theorem. Even crazier is that it’s true for any distribution, as you continue to “make rolls”

A set of 8 questions, all of which use the idea of zero pairs, ranging from simple addition and subtraction to simplifying surds.

In #MathsToday (yesterday) we looked at how the idea of "zero pairs" comes up again and again in the curriculum.
What did we miss?

Always? Sometimes? Never? x^2 + Ax + B = (x+c)^2+8 1. C is less than A. 2. The vertex has an x-coordinate of 8. 3. B is less than A. 4. If C is an integer, so is A. 5. If A is an integer, so is B. 6. B is greater than 8. 7. If you know B, you can work out A and C. 8. The quadratic has two roots. 9. The minimum valueof the quadratic is 8. 10. If you know A, you can work out B and C.

In #MathsToday, Year 10 enjoying having a go at this Quadratics Always/Sometimes/Never task (which I did as a card sort in pairs).

It was really interesting to tease out the subtleties, look at different edge cases, and keep bringing things back to the graphs.

Neural network-assisted personalized handwriting analysis for Parkinson's disease diagnostics - Nature Chemical Engineering This study presents a diagnostic pen with ferrofluid ink that converts handwriting into sensing signals for Parkinson's disease (PD) diagnostics. In pilot studies, neural network-assisted analysis of collected handwriting signals accurately distinguished patients with PD, demonstrating the pen's potential as a low-cost, scalable tool for accessible diagnostics.

A pen loaded with magnetic ink can be used to help detect early onset Parkinson’s disease, suggests a study in Nature Chemical Engineering. Neural network assisted data analysis in the device can identify differences in the handwriting of people with and without the disease. #medsky 🧪
