I was a defender of sending Marte on that game they lost, but Pete is notoriously slow, and that ball was hit really sharply to a shallow right fielder.

If a pitching staff gives up 3 runs in 2025, the loss is not the pitchers' fault.

This is particularly true on a team with a $320+M payroll.

Tonight's problem wasn't the pitching. It's the same problem since June: Pete is the only one who ever hits when the chips are down.

Last year, Lindor got credit for calling a players-only meeting after an embarrassing series w/the Dodgers & they turned it around. After this year's great start they had a similarly miserable series vs the Dodgers and it's been downhill ever since.

Where's that players-only meeting? They need it!

It's infuriating. I'm still very happy with my 2016 Model S (bought before I knew how crazy Elon is, and when there were very limited EV options), but I'll never buy another one.

Outside of the Elon insanity making Tesla owners embarrassed, their Service took a major about-face around 2019. Before that it was friendly and easy to access (if very expensive), but at some point it became "contact only through the app", and those texts are only answered about once per day.

I feel the same way. A team that plays defense this badly can't get far in the playoffs. Even Lindor, normally a gold glove candidate, is having a really rough year in the field.

So bad all around. Even Lindor is letting his hitting woes impact his defense -- two balls wound up in the outfield that he needed to get in front of, even if he doesn't make the out.

And Baty needs to go.

Putting Vientos and Baty on the corners in late innings is insanity -- a bunt up either line is as likely to result in a ball thrown to the outfield as an out.

The Nimmo/Soto/Lindor hitting slumps make you want to try the young bats, but these two are established defensive liabilities.

I mean, Nimmo lays down a bunt, or even grounds softly to the right side, this game is over.

There's no way to see Baty as a net positive for the #Mets. Gives up as many runs on defense as he knocks in.

Send him down and don't bring him back up if he can't field one position without being an obvious liability.

Acuña may not hit, but plays great defense & can be an excellent pinch runner.

Nimmo must have a religious objection to advancing a runner on 1st with no outs. Nothing but swings for the fences, even after striking out his previous 3 at-bats.

The heart of the post: AI is bad at simple things where you can easily determine if it is incorrect, but “astonishingly good” at things that are difficult to check.

Or as I like to say, “Capable of generating very impressive things, as long as you don’t care if they are right.”

I wouldn’t change it if I could. But maybe there’s someone else out on BlueSky that’s feeling the same way, a little sad we won’t get an ending to that great story.

So while I’m incredibly excited for what Brennan will bring to Critical Role Campaign 4, there’s a bittersweet note for me — at this level of success, it’s impossible to imagine Brennan taking time from CritRole, or Dimension 20, or Worlds Beyond Number to work on finishing SFP.

And they continued to blow me away: Calamity and Downfall changed what people could expect from D&D. The Deep Dark is so amazingly good that I can’t even put it in words (That page with “You will have to trust me” — OMG!!).

And with each success, the ending to SFP moved a little farther away.
