There’s a lot to recommend about living here. A lot of disadvantages, too, though; just last week the weather was so bad that ferries, including the nighttime ones that bring in most of the fresh food, didn’t sail for two or three days.

Wow - an American tea-drinker! I’m impressed. We’re lucky to have a tea shop here in the Outer Hebrides wot a huge selection. And I have a cousin-in-law in the south of England, who is a medical herbalist. I get some great teas from her, too.

There’s nothing better than a strong cup of tea at an old-fashioned caff after an early (04:30) start, nearly three hours on the ferry, and an hour and a half on the bus.

I'm going for a short retreat on the mainland tomorrow. I need space to get my head around writing again. I've done almost none since moving from Australia to the Outer Hebrides in Jan 2025. Time to prioritise. Going to work on my Lewis Chessmen idea.
