I grew up in Lozells, just a stone’s throw from Handsworth — where much of my family still live and where I went for sixth form. It’s a proud, diverse, working-class community. Robert Jenrick called it “as close as I’ve come to a slum” and complained he “didn’t see another white face.” This is white-supremacist thinking dressed up as “legitimate concerns”. The political and media establishment normalises this racism, but we won’t stay silent. We stand with all our communities and against the far-right.
