Haha, yeah YouTube is such a grind, you gotta be all in or nothing. I’ve had an account since 2009 and I’m at 2.2k subs and any new uploads get zero traction. But my channel is a hodgepodge of production work and short films and music videos and more recently my game trailers/play-throughs.

This is true! It’s a way to build anticipation/long form marketing but getting the right eyes on it is a challenge in it of itself. If you have a good YouTube following already it might be worth it, but it’s a lot of work to push it out vlogs regularly, make sure it’s worthwhile & track engagement.

I made the compromise and set up a sub on reddit that outlines my progress in a much less formal way, clips screenshots and updates. Keeps me accountable for progress too!

I feel like doing a dev log on-top of making your own game is sorta self sabotage in terms of progress you made vs what could’ve been done without the dev log time suck. I have a background on film so I’ve been tempted to do it, but free time is too rare a resource for me these days.
