All while educators were also often home schooling, caring for people with COVID, some taught through having COVID themselves, coping with isolation, quarantine. We all know the toll of those times.

Everyone was trying their best. Was it good enough? But it was often the best they could do.

And sadly, often, those sessions were delivered to blank screens. Hard to tell if students were behind the turned off cameras. Attendance and engagement dropped. When F2F was allowed, they didn't flood back. They wanted more online. Hybrid options - never done before but accommodated where possible.

It wasn't just online lectures. Practical kits were made and sent out. Virtual labs invented. Back garden fieldcourses. Activities that students could do at home suddenly thought up. Podcast style recordings made of content so that online sessions could be interactive to try to maximise learning.

It was hard. People tried their best. It was unprecedented. Those trying to deliver the teaching were also living through it.

Educators love to educate. The pivot to online teaching was insanely fast. New technologies were learned. Entire new ways of teaching delivery made.
