This watercolour artwork, depicting Arab figures, was produced by the Algiers Mission Band. It can be traced back to a journal by Lilias Trotter, who was a founding member from 1888-1928. (AWM/AMB, Box 14a)

SOAS Gallery is now closed for the Christmas holidays and will reopen on 15th Jan with two new exhibitions: 'Mughal Banaras', exploring the city’s forgotten Mughal heritage, and 'I Couldn't Stand By', sharing illustrated stories of youth, violence and peace. See you in 2026!
