16.02.2026 12:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Random Forest It was the summer of suicides. Long shadows cast over the lawn. Heat gripped us. A death ray. Drove us crazy. Until we could no Longer help ourselves. Or each Other. When the time came. It came often. Without warning. Sparing only the weakest of us. Those who had less will to live. Decision trees danced in the distance. Ever present. Just out of reach. We dreamt of being caught In their branches. Enjoying picnics In their shade. Scuffed shoes and Muddy knees. Leaves in our hair. We dreamt of choices. Of paths Untaken. Roads untraveled. Possibilities dangled like future Tenses. Tempting us with certainties. Like Milgram's dial. Then winter Pulled up its cold white sheet.

A halved papaya lies open on a dark, wet surface. Its glistening red interior, filled with pomegranate seeds and dripping juice, carries a sensual, sexually suggestive tone. Scattered berries surround it. The Broken Spine logo, shaped like a black fountain pen nib, appears top left. "@thebrokenspine.co.uk" is written top right in white. At the bottom right, bold white text reads: "Read Repost Reply #POEMSABOUT #DESIRE".

Iβm immensely proud of what weβve achieved with effable, and we have one last event this year, with the excellent Jamie Hale & Lucy Webster, facilitated by Lalah-Simone Springer & featuring 5 effing wonderful poets: Cat Chong, Chloe Clarke, Rick Dove, Jackson Phoenix Nash & Claire Sosienski Smith.
02.10.2025 20:20 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs National Poetry Day so one feels obliged to post something βpoeticβ, yet Iβve barely written or published any poetry this year.
But I have co-run an ACE-funded project, edited an anthology & championed the work of queer crip poets, shining a spotlight on voices so often marginalised.
