Very late to this, but I imagine that this is downstream of most Chinatowns emerging as ghettos for Chinese immigrants who were barred from living anywhere else, which incentivized a haphazard densification that wouldn't occur in most other environments in said country.

The Market Basket in Waltham "opens" at 7am, but I've gotten there at 6:50 and seen people coming out with heavily laden carts. I think they unofficially open around 6.

A huge problem with the Apple deal is that the brand differention between Apple TV (an app) and Apple TV+ (a subscription service) is broadly confusing and misunderstood, and people don't realize that Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass are completely separate services.

Outside of Paredes, DC has been committed to being as low on the manufacturing chain as possible.
Selling raw materials (Akinmboni) brings in a little cash, but the real money goes to whoever turns a raw 18 year old Matai into a highly effective 20 year old CB.

Caleb Porter's coaching strategy (Akron, Portland, Columbus) of Have Darlington Nagbe is less effective when he does not actually have Darlington Nagbe.

NYCFC has always been a chief offender in this department but it's amazing how many clubs can't post a simple roster, noting who is on a pro deal and who isn't.
Miami posted a garbled mess of a roster announcement this week, for example.

D1 label or no, USL will never be able to compete with MLS.
Expending resources on a quixotic mission instead of focusing on being the best 2nd and 3rd tier league you can be seems unwise.
Just ask the neo-NASL.

The implication here is that the $2m sale to Houston is a sale of Philly's 60% stake in McGlynn's rights, which means an offer from abroad would need to be $3.33m in order to match Houston's $2m offer in terms of Philly's share of the proceeds.

There's the internal CFG dynamic here, but in general MLS needs to move up the manufacturing value chain. Successfully developing a player from age 18-21 is a lot more lucrative than simply delivering the raw materials age 18 (see also: DC/Akinmboni)

This is a dynamic that I really did not anticipate occurring. Selling guys to big Latin American clubs for decent money opens a lot of opportunities for exporting certain types of players, given how reluctant big Euro clubs are to buying MLS guys older than 22 or so.

Thanks to the ETR crew for so many hours of great MLS chatter.
It's a real shame. How much can it cost to produce the show? Probably a lot less than one bad Georg Heitz TAM signing.
It's hard to see what the vision and strategy are here.

The end of Extratime really blows. In a sea of corporate talk, bro talk, and gambling ads, ETR was just a bunch of soccer dorks. Over the years the characters changed but they were almost always really genuine people who didnโt take themselves too seriously but gave great insight

Walking into a relegation bait situation will be hard, but I think it makes sense for Tolkin to shoot his shot here.
Some get to go straight to mid-table clubs. Tolkin's profile is a guy who is always going to have to run the gauntlet of playing for a bottom feeder to prove himself at that level.

FWIW, in my part of Boston there are a number of mid-sized developments that include plenty of two-bedrooms (of the three I just looked up, one is 100% two-bedrooms, one is half, and one is about 25%)
New 3+ bedroom units that aren't SFH are certainly hard to come by.

I'm pretty critical of a lot of US foreign policy over history, but I find the desire to exculpate Russia in order to maintain "US is always bad/wrong" purity to be very wrong-headed.
The "NATO Expansion" narrative also denies a whole lot of agency to Eastern Europeans.

I think there's a bizarro symmetry between neocon and leftist thought on foreign affairs where even when they reach wildly different conclusions, both groups make the US a main character in a conflict even when it's not.
