Illustrated sketches of five cats looking variously pitiful. One is meowing after humans, a large tomcat is looking derpy with extra toes and his tongue hanging out, a long-haired white cat is looking ill with most of her fur cut off to get rid of the matting. There are also two kittens about ten weeks of age.

Shelter cats.

I visited the animal shelter at Lohja, southern Finland, in preparation for an upcoming book project. Despite decades of work, cats still end up in shelters in shocking numbers.

I’m not usually a cat person but seeing these poor guys, I might have taken a few home with me if I could.

I haven’t had much time for drawing anything personal lately, but here’s a quick doodle of my rat Hönö, who curled into this seemingly very uncomfortable position and then promptly fell asleep using himself as a pillow.

An older digital painting of a Nanuqsaurus - a smallish, arctic Tyrannosaurus relative - stalking behind a multi-trunked dead tree. The sky is grey, the ground brown and covered with dead leaves and needles, and water on the foreground is frozen. The entire landscape is a kind of grey twilight.

Beginning of the Polar Night.

It's this time of the year again - sun barely rises and is most of the time obscured by clouds. Back in the Cretaceous, Arctic winters would have been even darker and greyer: warmer climate meant little snow, and studies suggest a permanent polar cloud cap. Poor dinos.

A scanned sketchbook spread with field sketches. Done with acrilyc markers and a black gel pen. A little landscape, sketches of mushroom and a plant, birds, some text... There are also some uhh, dragonfly wings taped to the page that i found in the sand. And a grasshoper leg (don't worry, it was just a leg that i found) and a little feather. A picture of an actual place can be seen as a background under the sketchbook.

Some sketches of early forming pyrite concretions and also excavators in the quarry (don't ask me what the other thing is for, idk how this little tank called, but apparently they use it to even the floor of the area). As a background behind the sketchbook there is a picture of some rocks and branches. From that exact place, of course!

Stegosaurs bore a fantastical variety of bony plates, spines and osteoderms, probably a mix between ornamental, defensive and offensive.

The bluetit (I am writing it as one word, or else Facebook might give me trouble 😅) is also a recurring bird in my art works. These little yellow and blue fluffballs are regular visitors to my garden, and I quite adore them. So here is a collection of paintings I did over the last few years.

Another favorite bird to paint for me is the mighty Gyrfalcon. Here are some watercolour and acrylic paintings I did over the last few years. Gyrfalcons live here in Norway, far up north. They are the biggest, and according to to some, most powerful falcons in the world.

While playing Isopod, you may be tempted to taunt Mangrove Jack, the genuinely terrifying fish.
