The Hitler we know was a gradual process too. The first concentration camps (eg Dachau) were sort of low key and might have looked harmless in comparison to Alligator Alcatraz. From 1933 it took till 1938 (Kristallnacht/Progroms) and to 1941 (Final Solution) for mass Jew internments/-terminations
