I am an old millennial and it's wild to me that I know people 2 years older (literally from the youngest year of Gen X) who do the 2 finger typing thing

AI LOVES to hallucinate both studies and links to them, but when you click through it doesn't exist. Slightly concerning they weren't already aware of this working in a research/science field.

Tucked away in the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' is the requirement that all visitors to the US must pay $250 just to enter the country starting 1 October! For a family of 5 that's $1250! I doubt this will help America's crashing tourism business which is down 10% already since January

This so much. And it's not just the pregnancy, it's that in this society the role of "dad" is so much less pressure than the role of "mom".

Full-body scans of 100,000 people could change way diseases are detected and treated UK Biobank project to share 1bn images of organs, blood vessels and bones to help study ageing and ill health Scientists expect to gain unprecedented insights into human ageing and the earliest signs of disease after scanning 100,000 people from head to toe in the world’s largest whole body imaging project. The completion of the decade-long task means qualifying researchers worldwide will have access to 1bn de-identified images of the hearts, brains, abdomens, blood vessels, bones and joints of volunteers alongside medical histories and rich data on their genetic makeup, health and lifestyle. β€˜Tremendous uncertainty’ for cancer research as US officials target mRNA vaccines Amid Trump cuts and state-level backlash, experts worry that progress in messenger RNA vaccines could stall

Over 120 mRNA cancer trials are now at risk as the Trump admin cuts funding & tells researchers to scrub β€œmRNA” from grant proposals.

What started as COVID fearmongering is now derailing life-saving cancer research.

Hope remains - but scientists say time is running out.

JD Vance is suggesting that neo-Nazis and the descendents of confederate soldiers have more claim to being part of this nation because they're white than immigrants who believe in the Declaration of Independence.

This kind of blood and soil nationalism is indistinguishable from classic fascism.

Here’s the bottom line for what’s going on with Grok - if the owner of the website is putting his thumb on the scale hard enough for the chatbot to turn into Goebbels, you should be deeply concerned about what he’s doing to the algorithm that you can’t so easily see, and what it’s doing to you

β€œThe New York Times collaborated with a white nationalist eugenicist hacker and agreed to keep his identity a secret to publish a Zohran Mamdani hit piece” is a way bigger story than β€œ18 year old Zohran Mamdani ticked β€˜African American’ on his Columbia application because he was a citizen of Uganda”

why is the New York Times agreeing to conceal Cremieux's real name (Jordan Lasker) as though he's some anonymous whistleblower instead of a well-known eugenicist who opposes the Civil Rights Act on the basis that black people are genetically inferior to other races

I sampled this a couple years ago when they were prototyping and it is honestly quite good - although in a side by side comparison with sea salmon you can tell a slight difference, mostly in texture. And it is expensive! That aside, what a massive win in the right direction for ethical meat.

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right nowβ€”but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands.

Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧡

But I've been doing it ~30 mins per day and I repeatedly practice lessons anytime I don't understand, instead of just moving on for gamification. And I realize this won't get me to speaking fluency, even if I understand the other person quite well, and that some other approach/immersion is needed.

I think it's a question of what you're trying to achieve and expectations. I've been doing Duolingo Spanish for 9 months and am actually surprised by how much I understand reading, overhearing casual conversation on the street or at a bar, etc.
