05.11.2025 03:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hi Kim, is this still happening?
05.11.2025 03:37 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Watched the whole vid on yt. I think you bring up some really valid points. I think because Canadian authors rely so heavily on subsidies and prizes, it ends up incentivizing that "type" of book. Not sure what the solution is, but I think about it a lot.

Finished Scott Alexander Howard's The Other Valley the other day. A lovely speculative story that seeps into you like a morning mist and asks you to consider what you would do if your past and future were only a hike away. #CanLit

Having watched the various TV adaptations and visited Green Gables in PEI, it's a wonder it's taken this long, but I've finally started reading Anne of Green Gables for the first time. Still early pages, but enjoying it so far. #canlit

17.02.2025 15:27 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I read Bear about a year ago for the first time. A wonderful, powerful novel well worthy of its spot in the #canlit canon.
17.02.2025 04:21 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Part 1 of my (this never happens) weekly reading roundup. Finished my first-ever romance novel, The Kiss Quotient. About as formulaic as I expected (not a negative, I wanted to learn the genre tropes). Spicier than I expected ๐. Not rushing for another but I liked it.
13.02.2025 01:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I dunno if blurb hunting is quite bully level for the analogy to work (maybe in the context of how publishers put marketing on authors), but yeah definitely get that ๐๐ vibe from PW's intro. I think it actually colours Manning's otherwise pretty neutral tone.
