To be a fly at CISA/CIA knowing a president who kept top secret information in his bathroom is reelected again

Ill keep an eye out for opportunities to expand my responsibilities towards appsec, I was wondering what your journey to appsec looked like, thanks!

I’m interested in writing security features as a swe and doing gotchas on the dev team haha

25.11.2024 20:55 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Haha thats why I figured appsec would be a good pivot for me since I already have knowledge in app building and I would love to combine it with security to secure them which I always found interesting

Ive always been interested in cybersecurity and was debating between sec and swe before I specced into swe and since then I found out about appsec which is a perfect intersection of my interests so I want to work towards that

Unfortunately Ive seen the cycle of hiring swe’s to build product -> then decimating the team after the product is built one too many times.

Since I come from a swe background I would like to do AppSec someday. Would starting as a SOC1 be a good step in that direction? Whats the next step after that?

Also looking to get some insights from more experienced experts. I’m transitioning from swe to cybersecurity so I have some technical knowledge as well as the SEC+

Currently trying to land my first cybersecurity gig and go from there. Working on googles cybersecurity cert atm and reiterating my cv

The OSCP is definitely on my list though as I hopefully progress in the field

Thanks! Yea, I figured Id work on their cybersecurity course because they have hands on labs that I can use to add keywords to my CV since the SEC+ is not giving me enough callbacks, and OSCP might be too out of my current paygrade since thats red teaming, an even higher barrier of entry than SOC1

Transitioning from swe to cybersecurity, got my comptia sec+, currently working through googles cybersecurity course, and then Ill be working on tryhackmes soc1 course, along with building a homelab to practice implementing siems and honeypots. Any tips on what else I should be doing? #cybersecurity
