Unfortunately, yes. Polling suggests a near even split between Democrats, Republicans, and Undecided. That says too many people are not seeing Democrats as an acceptable alternative to Trumplicans which means things can still swing in a bad direction (a la 2016).

Do the Democrats have a party platform that candidates can line up behind? And, is that party platform more than just "Trump Bad"?

No readout on the supposed purpose of the meeting?

If women return to traditional gender roles (ie. stay home and make babies), what will that mean with respect to the education of men and the jobs they will need to fill immediately? Will big corporations have to fund college for their employees to get the necessary training? Big problem!

Well, there is kind of a problem with stepping up now -- if Trump wields his power properly to shutdown dissension (sue, remove license, ..., jail?), that could take the wind out of the sails of the opposition if there is not enough dissension to counter his efforts. When will MAGA break?!?

Maybe it has to hurt more (such that Trump’s approval dips below 20%) to rile the people up sufficiently then the leaders will come. But it’s going to be a race between actual, true news and disinformation. If free speech is muzzled, we may be lost. We won the Kimmel battle, but they’ll be more.

That she didn’t expect so many people who would normally be part of the guardrails of our democracy to just capitulate to Trump and the GOP. An example is ABC (twice) when they should’ve been a bastion of free speech. Another is some Dems not standing firm against Trump’s BBB.

She said this in a Stephen Colbert interview a month ago.

Kind of a catch-22 at this point. If a leader arises, he’ll be jailed (on Trumped up charges) or killed. But the people won’t understand what needs to be done without the leader.

I and she are talking about how all the guardrails in the government crumbled after the election and so many people capitulated to Trump after that. That was unexpected — the civics understanding by Americans was very weak.

Protest against red redistricting. Ensure fair voting. Mobilize local voting groups (a la Indivisible). Find good, new candidates. Attract billionaire leftists with solid economic benefits. Present leftist ideas. It’s a lot of work that is being done slowly. Letting the right do its thing helps.

The big question for her to answer is why she didn’t contest the election? There were enough questions to raise that she, as sitting VP, should’ve investigated all the way to the Supreme Court (GWB precedent) while she still had the authority. Failure was possible, but it’ve est. her as a fighter.

Given the chance, how would the Democrats fix this?

What do you want them to do? What could they have done in the relatively short times they had a slim majority? In a 50-50 split country, how could they have attracted more Rs to their side without losing Ds? R ideology is simple — D ideology is much more complex (bc “Big Tent”).
