I haven't seen many of these movies, but as you say they have a respect for the original Universal material. Hammer, perhaps, less so. They branched out into their own unique and hugely successful take on these stories.

The Bloody Vampire. 1962. Wonderfully quirky Mexican gothic, superbly spooky visually striking and loaded with unique latino lore. Frightful fun.

I think I've seen this, but a very long time ago. Very unsettling as I remember. Don't recall that title though.

I've just ordered a PD copy from eBay. I have fond memories of it, so it'll be good to catch up again.

Names were changed to avoid copyright problems with Disney's planned version of 'Dr Syn' with Patrick McGoohan in the title role. It's hard to find on dvd, but I remember seeing it on TV when I was a kid, where it was split into 2 or 3 episodes.

Splendid stuff. With its roots in folklore and misty moors it's Hammer horror at heart. Ripper and Reed are top support while creepy Cushing owns it. 1962.

One of my Hammer favourites. Peter is obviously enjoying himself enormously, and it's great to see the always reliable -and usually under-used - Ripper in a more substantial role. I was lucky enough to find another cheap blu ray copy of this only last week.

Excellent film, with two top performances.

I'm paraphrasing, but Gloria Swanson once said " When I am a star, I will behave for every moment like a star." That's a motto the two leads firmly believed in.

The experience of watching is enormous enriched by knowing that the two leads hated each other😃

Today's bargain pick-up. Only £2 for this unloved and unoriginal take on the Mummy story. Always good to see Andre Morell in the lead, and even better to have perennial character actor Micheal Ripper given more to do than is usual.

That's the title that came into my mind, but I thought it was the Sunday religious show Harry Secombe used to present.

Another in that cycle of "Crazy, mixed-up kids" movies, but much better than most. Landon was an under-rated actor, possessed of great warmth, which I remember mostly from 'Little House on the Prairie', and that series where he played an angel. (Can't recall the name of it, sorry.)

Giant rabbits terrorise a stellar cast who needed the money. No rabbits were hurt while making this movie, just the actors reputations. Fierce furry fun. 1972.

Wisely, the trailer makes absolutely no mention of rabbits. I can imagine the disappointment of cinema-goers who paid their money expecting to see some despicable horror on the rampage.
