There's a difference between an all-purpose app like that and purely medical grade training model AIs that are used for things like speeding up medication research and the like. Obviously it's extremely limited use cases still.

There is literally only one good usage of AI, and that's medical applications. Anything that does not advance life-saving medication or procedures is not worth the current costs of using AI for.

Seems like Molyneux may have had his personality rub off on more people there than they'd like to admit.

Maybe someday I'll transition to writing full reviews of games somewhere so I can get my points across better than with 14 split comments, but for now this is kind of quality content I bring to the table. /End

All this to basically say: Don't assume I just didn't "get" Octopath. If it's a love letter to JRPGs, then it shouldn't disappoint me in basically every meaningful JRPG aspect. It should be making me appreciate JRPGs, not wish I was playing better ones. /14

These games do not meet the quality of basically any other popular JRPG franchise, let alone to the level that people seem to fawn over them for. Like what you like, I'm not here to yuck people's yum. I like plenty of games that have problems and probably don't meet other people's expectations. /13

The ONLY thing this game excels in besides the visuals is the music. Phenomenal score, could not recommend enough to JRPG fans. Hits all the right notes for that nostalgic feel but with a modern design. That's ultimately all it has though. Visuals and good music. /12

The sequel does a bit better with crossover chapters, but still not even close to enough imho. In the end I couldn't find myself giving a shit about each character because nobody else in the party seemed to care about each other either. /11

There's 0 meaningful crossover between each of the 8 characters and it's almost embarrassingly bad how those "conversations" between your current party are during each chapter. They literally amount to NOTHING character-wise. /10

Boy this is getting long but I'm not stopping because these things need to be confronted. The story (at least in the first game, still working on the second) is such a fucking nothing-burger. They have a secret ending that's supposed to tie all the stories together but it can barely do that. /9

Octopath literally only gives you the option of "more points spent = more effect on the one turn". Again the sequel at least gives you slightly better class customization, but they all still boil down to the same principle of prep 4 points to spend on one big turn. /8

But unlike in Octopath, you weren't just dumping those points into one big attack. You were giving yourself up to 4 completely separate actions to make decisions with. You could cast an element on your weapon then immediately go into an attack with said weapon if you spent the points. /7

Bravely Default had you balancing things like losing out on up to 4 whole turns if you wanted to bank on ending a fight with one big attack, or if you needed to risk leaving your healer useless because your whole team needed heals. /6

Seriously, very little of the battle flow in Octopath amounts to anything but bank those extra power points and then slowly break the shields so you can have your damage dealer do their big boy attack for big damage. Maybe debuff and buff every couple turns. Get a heal off if necessary. /5

The job system was vastly expanded in the sequel, but I still felt didn't reach some of the heights of games like Bravely Default since a lot of the customization fed into the resource management system of banking or cashing out early your turn points. /4

The battle system was an interesting but altogether minor adjustment of the Brave and Default system that ultimately lost the cost management and risk reward loop that made battles a little more interesting and bosses especially into nail-biting events. /3

I make a fuss about how much of a hell Octopath Traveler has put me through, but the reason this series pisses me off is because of all the wasted potential is has, especially the first game. The second game fixes a lot of that wasted potential but still just winds up leaving things on the floor. /2

This is the reason I left Catholicism as well. Just utterly demoralizing to be able to see so many people latch onto the worst parts of the teachings of the religion turn around and use the good parts only when it can be weaponized to bludgeon people over the head with.

Rumblings aren't enough, we need to make sure that they know that Game Key cards should rot and actual Physicals should be standard.
