The flu is an illness you get from the influenza virus. Flu is most common in winter months, when many people can get sick at once. Providers can treat the flu with antiviral medications under certain circumstances. These can reduce risk of severe illness and shorten the amount of time you’re sick.

An image of Shamone Gore Panter accompanied by the headline "Member Spotlight - Shamone Gore Panter. Subheading: Run Your Own Race: After years of advising others, Shamone Gore Panter, PhD, pursues her own path to medicine." Next to the photo is text that reads: On August 31, 2007, Shamone Gore Panter, PhD, cancelled her MCAT registration at the last minute. Despite her undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University in chemistry and biology, research experiences at the Cleveland Clinic, and a summer of preparing for the exam, she was terrified.

“I did not have any confidence at all that I could do well on that test, like none. So I canceled it, and I said, ‘Okay, so what can I do?’”

What followed was more than a decade of work in research, academia, and even advising medical students, before Gore Panter took the leap again herself.

“A lot of us have these really big dreams or thoughts on what we can do, we can fix everything, and unfortunately, healthcare isn’t set up that way. So [it’s about] finding where you think you really can contribute.”

A green square with black text of a quote from Dr. Marie Schaefer, president of the academy of medicine of cleveland & northern ohio, that reads "we stand strongly against the appointment of a man with no medical education or experience to lead the Department of Health and Human Services. Anyone who argues against fundamental tenets of medical science without using any empirical evidence is not well-suited to that position"

As RFK Jr.'s Senate confirmation hearing takes place today, we want to reiterate our absolute opposition to the nomination. We are calling on our Ohio senators, Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted to stand up for medicine and vote against this appointment.
