Yes, exactly!! Kids need to be exposed to books and stories, and I don't know if there is a modern equivalent to Reading Rainbow, but we definitely need one

I'm so grateful that both my parents took the time to read to us. My Mom would borrow books I finished to read and discuss them with me. I was a student who struggled to learn how to read, who has a learning disability, and my parents helped me become a lifelong reader more than any one teacher did.

every day I am asked questions about grade-level vocabulary words that students have never been exposed to before, students are struggling with literacy more than ever and it is so so so depressing. Teachers can only do so much!

I'm not a parent, but as someone who is teaching kids who were born in the 2010s I've got to say please please please read to your kids, encourage your kids to read for fun, take them to the library and let them read anything that catches their eye, read the same book and talk about it together!
