Race doesn’t affect the onset or progression of disease — racial bias does
Confounding race with genetics causes doctors to miss treatable ailments.
We don’t want “color blind” research, which could overlook dangerous trends in at-risk populations. Rather, studies should account for social determinants of health without using race as a crude proxy — such as the societally ingrained idea that sickle cell anemia is a Black disease.
