Obviously XIV models do not behave the same way as real human bodies (I am looking at you, elbows!) but I got a lot better at shoulders after this and making dynamic shots.

Using references is actually fun! Go look at your favorite movie or comic. In fact, treat it like a character study. Doing these sets indirectly taught me a lot about how to rotate stuff like shoulders or knees to look more natural, and sometimes you learn how to cheat if the perspective allows it.
