I’m currently reading The Cult of Trump. I thought, “I’d really like a WWII book,” so I bought The Final Solution and Maus. Then I got The Open Society and Its Enemies. Then ADHD! So I got a Dragon Mage, Human Acts, and the three Silo Series books.

I’ve also been writing furiously.

Book 12:

This Night Short story inspired by the Black Lab song, “This Night” (Passion Leaves a Trace; 2007).

On March 14, 2011, I watched an episode of House MD titled, “Out of the Chute (S7E16j.” It opened with a song by Black Lab called, “This Night.” It burrowed its way into my soul. In May of the same year, I wrote this piece of flash fiction based on the song. #booksky #vampire #werewolf #gunslinger

a february ghost story nobody's perfect

This is so good! There’s not tons of description (a la Anne Rice, IYKYK), but what’s there is effective/horrifying/lovely. The read was quick too. Quick enough that my autistic pattern recognition to know a story’s end didn’t stand a chance. It’s a fully fleshed story you can devour in minutes. Yum!

Okay, I never thought about story writing this way, but it’s brilliant! The next time I get caught up in my head on “does this feel too familiar” in my writing, I just need to remember this.

I’ve long held the opinion that I don’t think ADHD is a disability. I medicate mine, but it’s necessary in order to function in society in its current state. I believe ADHD is just a different way of thinking. The thinking of progress. True, real progress.

Lost a week (!!!) to a new computer, video games, and a new (to me) anime series, Frieren. Anyone else just lose time like that?

Also, Frieren hit a special note with me, an autistic person, in her quest of “learning how to people.” Seriously, 10/10!

Book 10:

Anyhow, long story short, this book influenced me to write at my best, regardless of what the general population would think. Because money is not worth giving up my grammar police badge or soul. 😂

And if you actually read this and enjoyed it, I am not judging you. I absolutely love the Twilight series, and it has much of the same problems. But there are a problems in 50 Shades that should be a dealbreaker for any writer, grammatically speaking.

But will I dumb myself down in order to appeal to a broader audience? No. I would rather write what I love and be able to reread it myself and still love it then feel shame because the writing is awful and aspects of the story are awful even if the overarching story isn’t half bad.

Somehow, the author got tons of money and got a movie deal. So the reason I added it as something influenced me is that it made me realize that just because my writing but doesn’t make a ton of money doesn’t mean it’s not good.

This book is poorly written. Anyone with a firm grasp of grammar will agree. It also has some problematic things in regards to the whole flow of it. It also has some problematic things in regards to his stalker-y-ness.

I love a good story. Even if there’s some problematic things, if a good story is a good story, I can get into it. I thought this story would be that story.

The reason I added it as a book that influenced me is because I realized that just because a book is popular doesn’t mean it’s good.

I guess the moral of the story is to do your writing in the cloud. Whether it’s Google Docs or something else. Big companies that host cloud tools have multiple backups. Our physical computers do not. And if we miss a setting or if something is lost before an auto save happens we’re out of luck.

I saw this in my feed. It brought back some traumatic memories! I had a hard drive failure about 15 years ago and lost so much. For some reason, decided to trust my computer again and a few years after that I had another awful failure.

After that, I decided to do all of my writing in Google Docs.

I think I heard that we celebrate cats on Saturday. Or Caturday. I celebrate them all the time but okay. This is Goose. He has the best purrs.

I have a spicy story in the works for release on Substack, but it's on pause while I do some home projects. If I hyperfocus on that, I won't get anything done around the house. I hope to have it completed to share in the next week or two! #booksky

I went back to college after my divorce in 2009. I had a creative writing teacher that told me, “After a semester of seeing what you like to write, I think you’d love Cloud Atlas.” He wasn’t wrong! Such a weird but amazing book.

No hate to Kindle; I love the power of carrying a small library around with me everywhere I go. But, I mean, look at those pages! So touchable. To dog-ear or not to dog-ear, that is the question. 💙 #booksky
