Some short earned owls and a northern harrier on my walk tonight.

I went to the Orchid show at the Enjoy Centre this past weekend to see something beautiful in what sometimes seems like a cold and nasty world. Orchids come in all kinds of colours, different shapes and sizes, and are so pretty. #orchids, #enjoycentre

Two of these Pileated Woodpeckers were around in our backyard the other day but I was only able to get this photo of the female. They helped themselves to some food and water and then flew away. Hope they come back again.

This is one of the foxes I saw yesterday as it was out hunting. It did not like being watched although I stayed far back. The sun had set and so this was the best I could get before it ran off into the trees. Still I was very happy as I don't see a fox very often. #albertawildlife

Magpies. You either love them or hate them. To us they seem so common being here all year round but when people come to visit from the east they find them to be so interesting! They are mischievous, curious and can be a nuisance but I still love them.

I love the stern stare of the Great Grey Owl as it is listening for voles under the snow.

These guys just don't get much love. They are actually harder to photograph than you might think as they will quickly fly away. This day they were more interested in eating.

As 2024 comes to an end it makes me reflect on my photography and how has it progressed.I leave you with this beautiful snowy owl flying across the soft pastel sky to her new perch across the road. Again I left her to her evening hunt, thankful for her time and grateful for the beautiful evening.

It was close to sunset and I had given up thinking she would show up.Suddenly to my left I saw something flying low and quickly across the field but I did not have enough time to get photos of it flying.She was quite high up in the tops of the trees scanning the field for supper.

It was a lucky day yesterday as I also photographed this cute little Saw Whet Owl! Such a cute tiny owl!

I was so fortunate to be able to photograph the Boreal Owl yesterday. These birds are commonly found in the Boreal Forest and further north of us. It is very special to have one in our area.

Mr Grumpy. Likely because it is only 5 days to Xmas and still lots to do! The Northern Hawk Owl has such a stern look. An odd pose for how he was sitting on the branch but it wasn't moving!

this Great Grey Owl had just caught a vole and was looking up at me to see if I got the photo!

I grew up on a farm so harvest time is always special to me. seeing the coyote mousing in the field as the combine made its round was interesting to watch!
