And, if the rules are the same as with cougar hunting (which it appears they are), bear hunters will now also be allowed to use off-leash dogs to kill bears in provincial parks. No one else can have a dog off-leash in a park, but bear and cougar hunters can.

According to the presser, most of the areas where black bear hunting with dogs will be allowed have resident grizzly bears, which in theory cannot be hunted. What could go wrong?

It's not a bill, it's changes to the regs that he put in place. Same rules will apply with the dogs as with cougar hunting. In other words, dogs can run off-leash in provincial parks as long as they're chasing a bear to be killed.

๐ŸšฉOld Alberta coal mines are polluting rivers and endangering wildlife, says a new study by government scientists.

The study is "a warning flag" for future coal projects in the province, says a former Alberta government scientist in charge of environmental monitoring.

Spivey: education less effective than penalties in reducing kill of female mountain goats. 42% of nannies were shot intentionally, and 23% of hunters took ethically dubious shots at further than 300 m. wildlife.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Ridiculous story. Not all wolves have a natural fear of people (see Takaya, half the Banff wolves, half the Jasper wolves, etc). Read The Pipestone Wolves by wolf behaviour expert Gunther Bloch. Now if the wolf is indeed food-conditioned, that's bad, but until that's proven, this isn't a story.
