Kitt Peak Observatory in AZ is pretty darn amazing as well. I assume you already know about Mono Lake. Good astrophotography there too.

Black Hills Natural Forest was amazing when I drove cross-country. I slept in my car in the entry parking lot with a lot of other drivers (in their own cars). Woke to an amazing sunrise and everyone sharing their coffee and breakfast. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed Candela for all the new-to-me liveplay folks I had not seen before.
